This weeks Most Hated Man on the Internet
Thursday 08-21-2008 4:19pm ET
Tad Kubler of The Hold Steady
Speaking about Radiohead and their recent In Rainbows
blitz, Kubler opined, "I think they've lost the plot. What are they
doing? Where are they going? What's happening? I don't get it any more.
They lost me. I still appreciate what they're doing, or what they're
trying to do. But I think they're trying too hard not to be Radiohead.
That seems a little ridiculous to me."
He went on, "I like them as a rock band, all the buttons and
sequencing and stuff like that I don't really care for. I'm a fan of
rock music and what they're doing now I don't think is very good. When
you have that kind of money, you can put on a great performance
regardless of what you do. If you can't go out and pick up your
instruments and play a good show, that doesn't do it for me. I don't
have any interest in that."
Holy Trinity of Guitar is Documented
Thursday 08-21-2008 4:15pm ET
World still turns:
It Might Get Loud.
According to a press release, "The movie revolves around a singular day
when Jimmy Page, the Edge, and Jack White first met and sat down
together to share their stories, teach, and play." The doc "captures
the guitarists as each explains and demonstrates how he changed the
sound of the electric guitar to suit his own distinctive musical style."
It Might Get Loud will make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival
in September.
Blur Bassist used to do a lot of Cocaine
Thursday 08-21-2008 4:14pm ET
Which is why he's the perfect person to host a documentary shot in Columbia...about cocaine.
Cocaine Diaries: Alex James in Colombia tells the story of
James' trip to Colombia, upon the invitation of the country's
president, to better understand the origins and human cost of cocaine.
Shooting for Cocaine Diaries took him to the source of his
former addiction, "from riding shotgun with a drug kingpin's assassin
to venturing deep into the rainforest to watch coca leaves being
harvested and turned into narcotics."
In a press release, James is quoted as saying, "It's a long way from a cheeky line at a dinner party. It's terrifying."
U2 reissue train rolls on...
Tuesday 08-19-2008 11:44am ET
U2 are more productive as a reissues act
these days than as an actual band. Though a new album from Bono and co.
is rumored to be due in November (and rumored to be titled No Line on the Horizon), the nostalgia tour continues with re-releases of live record Under a Blood Red Sky and concert film Live at Red Rocks. Originally released in 1983, Under a Blood Red Sky features eight live recordings from U2's War tour. The reissue is remastered but otherwise without any extras. The reissue will be available on CD and 180-gram vinyl. Live at Red Rocks
was recorded at Morrison, Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheatre on June 5,
1983. This is the concert film's first time on DVD, and it comes with
five previously unreleased tunes, a commentary track from the director,
and DVD-quality sound and picture upgrades. Interscope/ Island/ UME will release Under a Blood Red Sky and Live at Red Rocks both separately and as a deluxe CD/DVD package on September 30 in the U.S.

WHAT THE HELL?
Friday 08-08-2008 4:01pm ET
NME article:
Wolfmother played a fraught headline set at the
Splendour In The Grass festival on Sunday (August 3) in Byron Bay
Australia, after which their manager said a statement about the band's
status would be released soon.
Since then a press release from
Universal Music Australia explained that bassist/keyboardist Chris Ross
decided to leave the band "due to irreconcilable personal and musical
differences" immediately following the performance.
The
statement went on to explain that after Ross left the band drummer
Myles Heskett decided he would rather leave Wolfmother than continue as
part of a new line-up.
The duo have been writing songs together
and, according to the statement, "plan to focus their energies on that
new project in the future".
Frontman Andrew Stockdale, however,
will continue under the Wolfmother moniker, and will be looking for new
musicians to complete the band's line-up and begin work on a new album
before the end of the year.
The statement finished asking fans to understand the reasons behind the split.
It
read: "Andrew Stockdale, Myles Heskett and Chris Ross will make no
public statements at this time except to say that they are each really
looking forward to making their new music over the years ahead.
"In
the meantime they simply ask all Wolfmother fans to please understand
that in spite of their best efforts over a long period of time, they
just could not find a harmonious way to work together and that has lead
to the decisions announced today."
